16th April 2008:Brooklodge
United 0-1 Everton
Everton maintained their recent good form with a fine victory away
to Brooklodge United on Wednesday evening. Preparations were thrown
into turmoil due to the confusion regarding the venue. Credit is
due to the players for not letting this confusion impinge on their
mindset and they were quickly into their stride once the game began.
Graham Hickey hit the post on ten minutes and the crossbar fifteen
minutes later as he sought his elusive twenty first goal of the
season. Everton got in behind the Brooklodge defence time after
time but could not find the net and the teams turned around scoreless.
Brooklodge tried hard to get a foothold in the game in the second
half but Everton were in too much control and the all important
goal came after sixty five minutes. Micky Dalton pounced on a moment
of indecision in the home defence and bravely put himself between
the keeper and defender before passing to Graham Hickey who gratefully
accepted the invitation to score his twenty first goal and give
Everton a valuable three points. Brooklodge pushed for an equaliser
but the Everton defence proved their worth and kept another clean
sheet.

JOHN HAYES CUP; 13th April 2008: Everton
6-1 CIT
Everton recorded a resounding victory in the 1st division cup in
Everton Park on Sunday morning. Even though short a few regulars
the home team had this game wrapped up before half time. After a
scrappy opening ten minutes Colin Fielding put Everton ahead with
a well taken penalty. The lead was doubled ten minutes later when
an unfortunate defender turned a Graham Hickey cross into his own
net. Next it was time for man of the match Denis Murphy to put his
name on the scoresheet when he rattled the net from thirty yards.
Micky Dalton was next when he turned in a Derek Cullinane pass at
the front post. With half time approaching Murphy got his second,
this time direct from a corner kick.
CIT steadied the ship in the second half but Everton were too good
to let them back into the game and midway through the half Denis
Murphy completed his hat-trick with another unstoppable thirty yard
drive. CIT scored a consolation goal in the last minute. This goal
took the gloss off the win, especially for Dave O Donovan who prides
himself on keeping clean sheets. Even though this was an emphatic
victory Everton know that an improvement is needed in order to collect
three ponts away to Brooklodge next Wednesday evening.
