Ray
Terry Swims The English Channel

Ray Terry
Continuing the success of Cork swimmers,
former Everton player Ray Terry recently made his solo successful
swim across the English Channel in 14 hours and 31 minutes.
Well-known on the staff of MacSweeny's photo shop in Oliver
Plunkett Street, the 30-year-old Riverstick native trained with
the Sandycove Island swimmers in Kinsale and is the fifth from
that group to solo the Channel in the last 26 months.
The 21-mile crossing from Dover to
France is considered the Mount Everest of open water swimming
and has beaten more than 50 swimmers who failed in their attempts
this summer. Ray started in bright sunshine, but the last five
hours of his swim were in darkness as he battled tides. So far
Ray has raised €40,000 for Marymount Hospice from his successful
swim. Congratulations from everyone at
Everton to Ray but it should be noted though that while he was
an Everton player it was impossible to get him into the showers
or turn up on a wet Sunday morning for a game for fear that
he might get wet. Well done Ray.... everyone in Everton is proud
of you.
