3rd June;
Everton 7-1 Wilton United A
Once again this was a lesson on how to react to defeat. Such was
the standard of football produced by Everton the large crowd in
Coffeys Field must have thought the World Cup had come to Togher
and started early. Everton started the annihilation of Wilton
as early as the 5th minute when Jason Kenny scored the first goal
of his hat-trick. He quickly followed this with his and Everton's
second before Nathan O'Driscoll scored to put Everton 3-0 ahead
at half time.
Wilton emerged for the second half with renewed determination
and pulled a goal back early on. Everton took offence to this
and and rectified the damage with a Craig Ryan strike before man
of the match Anthony Brothers scored a fifth. Jason Kenny, fearful
of being taken off if he scored a hat-trick did just that immediately
after the last sub went on and Jack O'Brien rounded off the scoring
before the referee blew the final whistle. Wilton themselves were
not without their chances but as usual the excellent Dean Ring
in the Everton goal kept them at bay. It is never easy to pick
out one player when the team performance is so complete but the
skill of Anthony Brothers was magnificent and had the crowd cheering
all through the game.
Everton; Dean Ring, Jamie Hayes, Luke Cotter, Ryan McCarthy, Jack
O'Brien, Jason Kenny, Nathan O'Driscoll, David Wyse, Craig Ryan,
Anthony Brothers, Trevor Varian.
Subs; Sam Mulcahy, Josh Abraham, Alan Kelly, Ryan O'Connell, Killian
Cooper, Martin Crowley.

June; Leeside Knockraha 4-3 Everton
Evertons promotion hopes ended in a very exciting match in Pidgeon
Hill last Tuesday evening. A disastrous start saw Everton 2-0
down after only 5 minutes but true to form they fought back to
ensure a very uncomfortable evening for the home team. From the
fifth minute until the half time whistle Everton attacked the
Leeside goal and only for bad luck would have scored at least
one, if not two goals.
Throwing caution to the wind Everton changed their formation to
3-4-3 in an effort to score the all elusive first goal. This tactic
soon backfired when Leeside/Knockraha scored a breakaway goal.
Any other team would have given up at this point but the Everton
character shone through and Jack O'Brien finally put Everton on
the scoresheet when he scored a thirty yard rocket from a free
kick midway through the half. Unbelieveably Leeside Knockraha
scored another goal against the run of play and they surely thought
they would emerge as runaway winners but Everton had other ideas.
Almost immediately Ryan O'Connell showed his skill and with his
back to goal on the edge of the penalty area he swiveled and struck
a beautiful goal inside the far post. Jamie Hayes scored Everton's
third with ten minutes remaining with a low powerful drive from
twenty yards. Everton piled on the pressure but unfortunately
ran out of time.
The players were very disappointed after this match but great
credit is due to them for their never-say-die attitude. If past
experience is anything to go by Everton will bounce back and make
amends against Wilton next Thursday. It was also good to see Alan
Kelly make his long awaited return to football after his serious
injury.
Everton; Dean Ring, Jamie Hayes, Luke Cotter, Ryan McCarthy, Jack
O'Brien, Jason Kenny, Nathan O'Driscoll, David Wyse, Craig Ryan,
Ryan O'Connell, Trevor Varian.
Subs; Martin Crowley, Josh Abraham, Alan Kelly, Killian Cooper,
Sam Mulcahy, (all used).
17th April;
Everton 2-2 Carrigaline Hibernians
Points were shared in this entertaining game in Coffey’s
Field today. With the season’s end in sight both teams knew
that three points would go a long way to ensuring the fate of
second place in the table and securing the all important second
promotion place. The game started at a hectic pace and the large
attendance surely knew that they were in store for a very entertaining
afternoon. The commitment of both teams was evident with every
loose ball contested both on the ground and in the air and with
defences on top the first half ended scoreless.
Everton knew they had more to offer in the second half but they
were caught on the break after only five minutes when the visitors
scored a rocket from 30 yards. In an effort to convert possession
into goals Everton introduced substitute Anthony Brothers and
he stamped his authority on the match with two wonderful goals
to put Everton in the driving seat as the final whistle approached.
The game took another turn with minutes remaining when Carrigaline
equalised from a deflected shot to draw level.
Everton:
Dean Ring, Martin Crowley, Alan Kelly, Jack O’Brien, Ryan
McCarthy, Jamie Hayes, Nathan O’Driscoll, Jason Kenny, Craig
Ryan, Ryan O’Connell, Trevor Varian.
Subs: Anthony Brothers, Sam Mulcahy.
Alan Kelly suffered a serious leg injury in this match and the
rest of the team wish him a speedy recovery.
3rd April;
EVERTON 5-2 BALLINCOLLIG A
Everton moved into third position in the league with this well
deserved win in Coffeys Field. This was Everton's fourth league
win in a row and will no doubt have the top teams in the league
looking nervously over their shoulders.
Everton took the lead on ten minutes when team captain Trevor
Varian finished off a well worked move down the left wing with
a well taken goal. Ballincollig didn't have time to settle down
before Jason Kenny doubled the home team's lead. Jack O'Brien
floated over an inch perfect free kick for Kenny to score at the
back post. Everton were playing brilliant passing football now
and went three nil ahead with the best goal of the game. The ever
dependable Ryan McCarthy dispossessed the Ballincollig striker
on the edge of the box and facing his own goal passed to Martin
Crowley at right back. Showing wonderful vision Crowley played
the ball forward to the outstanding Nathan O'Driscoll who showed
tremendous skill to beat his marker and dribble towards the corner
flag. O'Driscoll then played a fantastic cross for Craig Ryan
to rifle past the outstretched keeper. Everton took their foot
off the pedal before half time and Ballincollig showed that they
were not out of the game by scoring twice before the break, the
first from a penalty and the second on the break from an Everton
attack.
Wise words by Graham Hickey at half time focused the Everton minds
and ensured they continued to play passing football. This was
rewarded midway through the half when Jason Kenny scored his second
when put through by the impressive Luke Cotter. Anthony Brothers
was unlucky ten minutes from time when he had a goal ruled out
for offside. Everton were not finished yet though and Killian
Cooper put the icing on the cake when he hammered home Everton's
fifth.
This was a brilliant team performance and the goalkeeping display
by Dean Ring and the solid defending of Alan Kelly must not go
without mention.
Everton:
Dean Ring, Martin Crowley, Alan Kelly, Ryan McCarthy, Jack O'Brien,
Luke Cotter, Nathan O'Driscoll, Jason Kenny, Craig Ryan, Killian
Cooper, Trevor Varian (capt).
Subs: Anthony Brothers, Ryan O'Connell, Reece Hawkins, David Wyse,
Sam Mulcahy. All used.
21st February;
Douglas Hall 3-0 Everton
Everton travelled to higher ranked Douglas Hall minus a few regulars
and put up a much better show than the scoreline suggests. Everton
were caught on the break twice in the first half and the clinical
finishing of Douglas Hall was the difference between the two teams.
Everton however had their chances and at 1-0 down pushed hard
for an equaliser. A lovely passing move down the right wing wing
saw Craig Ryan find himself in the area but he was quickly closed
down and was robbed of posession. Douglas Hall caught Everton
on the break from this move and with the Everton defence stretched
scored a second.
Everton did not let this upset them and started the second half
with renewed determination. Everton had most of the play now but
attack after attack was thwarted by some resolute defending by
the home team. Midway through the second half Everton took a gamble
and went three at the back in an effort to get the elusive first
goal. As is often the case this tactic lets the team light at
the back and this is what happened when Douglas Hall scored a
third against the run of play.
Even though the result went against them Everton can take pride
in a courageous performance and their willingness to play attractive
attacking football will see them win a lot more matches.
Everton;
Alan Kelly, Martin Crowley, Reece Hawkins, Ryan McCarthy, Jamie
Hayes, Luke Cotter, Nathan O'Driscoll, Jason Kenny, Ryan O'Connell,
Craig Ryan, Trevor Varian (captain). Subs; Anthony Brothers, David
Wyse, Killian Cooper, Sam Mulcahy, Josh Abraham.
7th February;
Corinthian Boys A 1-4 Everton
Everton's lucky mascot "Roger the Duck" was last seen
with a big smile on his beak after watching this fabulous display
of footballing skill. Excellent defending by both teams ensured
a scoreless first half. Everton gave nothing away against a strong
breeze and must have been happier at this stage because all the
players knew that they could lift their performance in the second
half.
It only took five minutes for Everton to break down the Corinthians
defence in the second half when Jason Kenny fired in a long range
effort which the home keeper failed to hold and Roger was quacking
with delight. This goal inspired Everton and shortly after Craig
Ryan doubled the lead with a well placed pass into the corner
of the net. Corinthians were unfortunate in the 50th minute when
a defender tried to cut out a dangerous cross by Ryan O'Connell
only to put the ball into his own net. By now Everton were in
full control and Craig Ryan scored his second and Everton's fourth
to seal a brilliant victory. Corinthians got a consolation goal
in the last minute with a well taken free on the edge of the penalty
area. When asked after the final whistle to sum up his team's
performance Roger replied "it was a quacker".
Team ; Daniel Lake, Martin Crowley, Reece Hawkins, Jack O'Brien,
Alan Kelly, Luke Cotter, Nathan O'Driscoll, Jason Kenny, David
Wyse, Craig Ryan, Trevor Varian.
Subs; Ryan O'Connell, Anthony Brothers, Killian Cooper, Dean Ring.
23rd January;
Everton 3-2 Wilton United A
The true test of a team's character is how they react to defeat
and after last week's heavy defeat this team showed their true
character on Saturday in Coffey's Field. Everton were quickly
into their stride and opened the scoring after 15 minutes. An
inch perfect pass by Sam Mulcahy found Craig Ryan unmarked on
the edge of the box and he drove an unstoppable shot past the
Wilton keeper. The game settled down after this and Wilton equalised
10 minutes later. The visitors were now starting to take control
of the game but Everton were defending very well with excellent
tackles from full backs Dean Ring and Reece Hawkins. Just when
it looked like half time would see the scores level Wilton took
the lead.
Wilton put Everton under a lot of pressure early in the second
half but Alan Kelly at centre back and Trevor Varian playing a
defensive midfield role kept Wilton away from the home goal. Ten
minutes into the second half Wilton must have thought they would
increase their lead but two fantastic saves by keeper Daniel Lake
with his feet at the front post denied them a goal. Five minutes
later Lake showed his true value to the home team. A Wilton attacker
hit a high powerful drive over the head of Lake but he somehow
managed to not only reach the ball but turn it around the post
to tremendous applause by the large crowd. The brilliance of Lake
inspired his team to push on and seek an equaliser and as the
game progressed Anthony Brothers and Jason Kenny put the visiting
defence under all sorts of pressure. With ten minutes remaining
Jack O'Brien made one of his forays up the left wing a crossed
a great ball over to far post for the inrushing David Wyse to
put Everton back on level terms.
Everton were now in full control and the well deserved winner
came in the last minute when Jason Kenny was fouled in the area.
All eyes were on Ryan O'Connell as he calmly stroked the resulting
penalty low to the keepers right and into the bottom corner of
the Wilton net.
This was an outstanding team display by a very talented group
of players and managers Joe Kelly and Graham Hickey were delighted
with such a high level of performance.
TEAM
Daniel Lake, Dean Ring, Reece Hawkins, Jack O'Brien, Alan Kelly,
Ryan O'Connell, David Wyse, Anthony Brothers, Sam Mulcahy, Craig
Ryan, Trevor Varian (captain).
sub; Jason Kenny for Sam Mulcahy (half time).
5th December; Macroom 3-4
Everton
Everton U11s took their place in the fourth round of the National
Cup after a fine 4-3 win over Macroom.
Despite the horrendous weather Joe Kelly and Graham Hickey’s
lads rose above the conditions to see off the challenge of Macroom.
Macroom took an early lead after ten minutes but Everton bounced
back six minutes later when Ryan O’Connell made a driving
run in to the box and was fouled for a penalty.
Ryan took the penalty himself and made it 1-1.Everton took the
lead on 21 minutes when Ryan O'Connell scored again. Macroom equalised
three minutes later to leave the half-time score 2-2.
Everton played into a very strong wind and driving rain in the
second half and 12 minutes in Everton manager Graham Hickey made
what turned out to be a master stroke when he brought David Wyse
on as a sub. With his first touch David toe poked the ball into
the net to give Everton the lead again.
Macroom made several attempts to break the everton defence down
but they proved to strong on the day with Martin Crowley,Ryan
McCrthy, Jack O’Brien and Jamie Hayes standing strong.
With five minutes left Everton increased their lead when Trevor
Varian scored. Macroom pulled one back in the final minute but
it wasn’t enough to stop Everton marching into the fourth
round.
Overall it was an outstanding team performance and they worked
very hard for their victory. Three players who worked beyond the
call of duty were Jason Kenny who kept tracking back and helping
the defence out time after time, Ryan O’Connell for his
goal scoring and a full hour of running up and down while Ryan
Mc Carthy put in some fine tackles throughout the game.
TEAM: Alan Kelly, Martin Crowley,Ryan McCarthy,Jamie Hayes,Jack
O’Brien,Luke Cotter, Nathan O’Discoll, Trevor Varian,
Jason Kenny,Craig Ryan,Ryan O’Connell, David Wise.
12th September
; Glounthaune United 6-3 Everton
Even though beaten
Everton’s performance was much improved to that of the previous
match.
The return of Jason Kenny was a bonus and he scored in the first
minute with an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net.
Glounthaune score two in quick succession but the never say die
attitude of Everton ensured that we equalised after twenty minutes.
This time it was the impressive Anthony Brothers who hammered
home goal no. 2 from outside the box.Just when it looked like
the half would end all square Glounthaune scored on the stroke
of half time.
Everton’s concentration dropped twice in the second half
and Glounthaune took advantage of this to put themselves 5-2 up
but some tactical changes got Everton back into the game when
Jason Kenny was fouled in the Glounthaune area. Kenny himself
took the penalty and gave the keeper no chance with a well placed
strike into the bottom corner of the net. Everton pushed more
players forward but it was the home team who scored the last goal
to end a very entertaining match.
It would be unfair to single any one player out for mention such
was the high standard of performance from all 15 players on the
day.
TEAM;
Daniel Lake, Jamie Hayes, Reece Hawkins, Alan Kelly, Ryan McCarthy,
Luke Cotter, Ryan O’Connell, Jason Kenny, Anthony Brothers,
Nathan O’Driscoll, Trevor Varian (captain).
